Job Description - Registered Nurse RN Navigator

Overview

Pay range for this position is $32.83 - $48.76/hour. Actual pay is based on years of licensure.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Nurse Navigator (NN) guides and supports patients through the preoperative surgical preparation process and acts as a liaison between patient, surgery scheduling, anesthesia, surgeon offices and preoperative areas (SPAC and Ambulatory Surgery). The NN ensures safe, efficient and accurate scheduling in a patient centered continuum, including coordination of booking/pre-registration, preoperative patient education and preadmission testing.

The NN serves as the primary pre-surgical contact for patient, family, surgeon and surgical office staff and functions as the nursing resource for problem identification and resolution prior to surgical intervention. The NN responds to any special patient needs requiring individual assistance and develops and maintains a consistent, reliable line of communication and collaboration between patient and all staff involved with surgical services. The NN also works to further develop and refine the NN role and process.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

3 years’ experience in SPAC (Surgical Preadmission Center), medical/surgical nursing, surgical office, operating room or ambulatory surgery. Working knowledge of perioperative patient care processes.

License/Certifications:

-Current Illinois RN License.

-Current American Heart Association HealthCare

-Provider BLS CPR or approved equivalent (must include infant throughout adult, one and two-man rescuer, use of AED, and choking with hands-on CPR skills return demonstration, and must be preapproved by Org Dev/Human Resources—completed prior to employment.
