Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

The RN/Survivorship Program Coordinator provides resources and education for patients at diagnosis, through cancer treatment and beyond. The RN/Survivorship Coordinator utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive care to persons with cancer and their families. The RN/Survivorship Coordinator interacts with physicians, pharmacy, Clinic personnel, and community agencies, home care nurses, and outside physician offices to provide optimal care to the individual diagnosed with cancer and his/her family. He/she must remain calm in stressful situations and represent the Department of Oncology/Hematology in a positive and professional manner.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.

Minimum Required: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.

Preferred/Optional: None

EXPERIENCE 

Minimum Required: Theoretical knowledge and technical skills in teaching and/or patient education. Prior experience with program development and formal community and family caregiver support modalities and local resources.

Preferred/Optional: Minimum two years’ nursing experience. Oncology nurse experience.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES 

The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.

Minimum Required:

  • Current State of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or Nurse Compact License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Nurse navigation certification awarded through an approved program within three and a half years of hire or within six months’ of qualification.

Preferred/Optional:

  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) awarded by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation.
  • Blood and Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse (BMTCN) certification awarded through the Oncology Nursing Society.
  • Certified Breast Care Nurse (CBRN) awarded by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation.
  • Oncology Nurse Navigator-Certified Generalist (ONN-CG) awarded through the Academy of Oncology Nurse and Patient Navigators (AONN) to meet the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accreditation requirements.
  • Oncology Nurse Navigator-Certified Generalist-Thoracic (ONN-CG(T)) awarded through the Academy of Oncology Nurse and Patient Navigators (AONN) to meet the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accreditation requirements.
